Custom multimode polymer waveguide TxRx arrays are created in self supporting films. Micromachining singulates array strips, creates I/O mirrors & coupling interfaces. Waveguides are separately optimized for Tx and Rx operation. After QC, waveguide strips with board edge connectors are precisely aligned & mounted on substrates. Multimode polymer waveguide arrays are configured as self supporting TxRx links between underlying components and fiber arrays. Component interfaces are achieved by I/O mirrors with optional lens arrays. Link output is through custom or standard ferrules. Processing and designs are identical to flip chip links (above). Custom multimode polymer waveguide splitters are available with desired odd or even number of outputs. Customer specified connectorization options are available, which can include packages with MT style output ferrule and single ferrule input, or all I/O with connected fiber pigtails. Designs are optimized for desired output into optical fibers accounting for fiber core size, NA & input number. Self supporting waveguide array links demonstrated with 180° repeatable bending. So far over 4000 bend repetitions with no loss increase. Four micron separation on~ 40 micron centers and bending ROC to 1mm are possible. Links are fully connectorizable with unique designs.
